ABOUT EMŐKE LŐRINCZ

Emőke Lőrincz is an Hungarian visual artist, born in Havana, Cuba, living in Budapest, Hungary. She works as an art director – and she also paints.
Her paintings are a mixture of meaningful nostalgia and odd situations. She is inspired by her memories and that of others – and from her own and old family photos and pictures found on the internet. She places her often idealized, sometimes grotesque, introspective characters in intimate or uncomfortable situations.
The excitement of reproduction: she adds visual details to the barely visible features found on knick-knacks, sculptures, and blurry photos, and put them into new situations. The documented past is reimagined creating new memories.
Although she paint from photos, she just uses them as reference material. While painting, she watches parallel two-three different photos and chooses the detail which most excites her.
As she paints alla-prima, her painting is instinctive and spontaneous. Because the details are not pre-invented, the final result develops on the canvas, the picture evolves organically. She works with hard brushes not to be lost in fine details.

She incorporates her experience in digital design into her painting, while also taking part in creating interactive museum installations.

Only the nonexistent can stay unharmed; the transience crawls even into the imaginary world of the paintings.
